Healthcare in society is an essential part of maintaining the wellbeing of the population but what exactly should healthcare be concerned with? Healthcare is classified as the prevention, treatment and management of illness and the management of good mental and physical well being. This is done through services of doctors, nurses, hospitals and care services. In most developed countries such as the UK healthcare is provided to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. Alternatively in many developing countries they are dependent on the World Health Organisation to manage and provide for their healthcare needs.
The standard systems of healthcare are split into different models. Purely private where the individual pays, a combination of majority private but still a small public service and the public funded healthcare model where the residents of the country pay through taxation for a free public healthcare service. It is this such model that is employed in the United Kingdom today, though there is also now a growth in private healthcare companies offering extra care available to be purchased. |
